Is Daffodil Toxic to Dogs?

Yes — Daffodil is moderately toxic to dogs

Daffodils are one of the first spring flowers and a common poisoning risk for dogs who dig up bulbs. The lycorine alkaloid causes intense vomiting — which actually helps limit absorption. Bulb ingestion is more dangerous than flowers.

Symptoms in Dogs

If your dog eats Daffodil, watch for these symptoms (onset: 15 minutes to 1 hour):

  • Severe vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Cardiac arrhythmias (large ingestion)
  • Tremors
  • Low blood pressure

What To Do

See vet for bulb ingestion. Flower/leaf ingestion usually causes only GI upset. IV fluids may be needed for severe vomiting.
