Is True Lily Toxic to Dogs?
Yes — True Lily is mildly toxic to dogs
True lilies are the most dangerous common plant for cats. Even a small nibble, licking pollen off fur, or drinking vase water can cause fatal kidney failure within 72 hours. This is a true veterinary emergency. Dogs are far less affected but may experience GI upset.
Symptoms in Dogs
If your dog eats True Lily, watch for these symptoms (onset: 6-12 hours (kidney damage within 24-72 hours in cats)):
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy
- Kidney failure (cats)
- Death if untreated (cats)
What To Do
EMERGENCY for cats. Seek immediate veterinary care. Early aggressive IV fluid therapy is critical. Even small exposures (pollen on fur) can be fatal to cats.
