Sago Palms are extremely dangerous to all pets. The seeds (nuts) are the most toxic part, but all parts of the plant are poisonous. Ingestion of even a small amount can cause liver failure and death. The 50% mortality rate makes this one of the deadliest common household plants.

Symptoms in Cats

If your cat eats Sago Palm, watch for these symptoms (onset: 15 minutes to several hours):

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Seizures
  • Liver failure
  • Death

What To Do

EMERGENCY. Immediate veterinary care required. Induce vomiting only if directed by vet. Mortality rate is 50% even with treatment.
